It takes a wine with a good level of sweetness but a high acidity to match up to cherries, says Rob Buckhaven. These are his top three
1 Peachy
Tesco Finest Dessert Semillon (£6.49) adds peachy flavours to a cherry compote.
Blagger’s guide
Wines made from the Semillon grape can often be kept for up to 20 years before drinking.
2 Frothy
M&S Asti Spumante (£7.99) envelopes cherry cheesecake in a candied, green-grape foam.
Blagger’s guide
This fizz is made from Muscat, the only grape which produces a wine that has the same aroma as the grape itself.
3 Citrusy
Bonterra Vineyards Muscat 37.5cl (£6.88, Waitrose Wine Direct) brings a hint of lemon to black forest sundae.
Blagger’s guide
This wine is organic, so it has fewer of the headache-inducing sulphates used to preserve wine.
